Tyler Perry’s Actress D’Atra Hicks is Coming to DC

D’Atra Hicks, Songstress, Actress, Producer, and Director, affectionately known by many as the “Actress with the Mighty Voice”, people come from across the country, across the world to hear her sing, to see the joy in her acting, and the life she brings to her characters. This New York native, starred in stage plays such as “Mama I Want To Sing,” “Behind Closed Doors,” “What’s Done in the Dark”, “Diary of a Mad Black Woman,” “Madea’s Family Reunion”, “Laugh to Keep from Crying” and “Maintenance Man.” She also understudied for the Tony Award nominated and Grammy Award winning “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” where she moved up into the leading role and went on to London to star in the show.

On June 30 2013, she is blessing the DC Theater Festival as she stars in the stage play, “Living Your Life.” This play answers a question that so many people are faced with daily, “What are you willing to lose in order to be successful or fulfill a dream, Yourself or Your Spouse?” This play was written by Charron Monaye, and Directed By Zuhairah McGill (both of First World Theater Ensemble in Philadelphia, PA). The show will be held at the Sitar Theater at 2:00pm and the tickets are $15.00.

On January 1, 2013, First World Theatre Ensemble’s Founder and Executive Artistic Director Zuhairah McGill welcomed CharronMonaye as its first female Playwright- In-Residence.
